Message from the CEO - Lisa Vecchi
Dear Friends,
Broward Housing Solutions® has remained strong in spite of the strain of a challenging economy! While we have seen dramatic reductions in government funding and face uncertainty in this economic climate, we continue to provide consistent, meaningful services to Broward County’s mental health community. The bottom line is, because of us, people have homes.
As numbers speak volumes, we are rewarded by our quantifiable achievements within this past year:
- 77% of tenants we surveyed were formerly homeless before moving into our units
- 87% of tenants experienced fewer hospitalizations since moving in to our units
- 61 tenants we currently house are children under the age of 18
- And, within just 16-months, we successfully housed an additional 21.6% more clients
Further, thanks to The Wasie Foundation, and other collaborating partners, Broward Housing Solutions was able to acquire and renovate one more property, Riverside Park, for our tenants in the Lease-to-Buy Program. Currently, Riverside Park houses thirteen tenants and their families who are at least one year away from purchasing their own house.
We remain optimistic amid these uncertain times, realizing that our work is even more important. We have gained strength through our challenges resulting in additional efficiency, effectiveness and resiliency so we are a better non-for-profit establishment than when we first began. Because we have improved we are able to have even more impact on those who we serve.
