About Us
Broward County’s citizens, struggling to maintain their mental health, face a host of challenges, beginning with getting their illness under control and ending with finding affordable housing. Permanent and supportive housing is the first step in stabilizing their mental health, followed by recovery, then, reintegration back into society.
People with mental illness often live with meager Social Security benefits that certainly do not cover the cost of safe and affordable housing.
This is where Broward Housing Solutions® (BHS®) steps in. The community-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization and Certified Housing Development Organization (CHDO), provides permanent supportive rental housing to mental health consumers. The tenants pay only 30% of their gross monthly income through the Rental Housing Program, and BHS assists with rental assistance through its Rental Subsidy Program. BHS also helps mental health consumers become homeowners through its Lease-to-Buy Program.
BHS tenants find themselves living in beautiful homes. The organization builds stunning new properties or purchases and renovates existing locations. Typical apartments and townhouses have tile floors, quality appliances, fresh paint, lush landscaping, and in short, are places anyone would be proud to call home.
Currently, BHS owns and operates 21 total scattered site properties throughout Broward County, serving more than 243 persons. Click here to see a list of BHS properties.
Mental health consumers live in warm and inviting homes. They are independent members of our community living stabilized lives.
In conclusion, it is a “win-win”. Mental health consumers win. The community wins. And, society wins!
