Broward Housing Solutions Launches Housing Solutions for Young Adults
Broward Housing Solutions is working closely with SOS Children's Village to help foster care youth who have "aged out" of the foster care system by developing a new program, Housing Solutions for Young Adults. Plans are underway to build a three-unit property on Woodside Drive in Coral Springs for up to six young adults. Broward Housing Solutions will provide their home and SOS Children's Village will provide life coaches to support independent living.
Many thanks to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, who agreed to allow the Housing Finance Authority of Broward County to transfer ownership of the $125,000 vacant lot on Woodside Drive for only $10. Also, thanks to the City of Coral Springs, which approved the project concept and agreed to waive all developer, impact, water, and sewer hook-up fees, estimated at $10,000. In addition, the city designed its allocated HOME CHDO (Certified Housing Development Organization) funds toward the construction of the property in the amount of $54,227. Broward County also awarded $269,137 of County HOME CHDO funds towards the construction of the property as well.
Groundbreaking of this triplex project is scheduled for October 2005.
Once Broward Housing Solutions completes construction, this new project will provide a home for young adults who have never had one.
