Broward Housing Solutions Receives Gift from Vasquez Family Fund at the Community Foundation of Broward

Broward Housing Solutions recently received a $5,000 grant from the Erwin M. Vasquez, M.D., and Elaine Vasquez Family Foundation Fund at the Community Foundation of Broward in Honor of Doctors Natalie A. and Oscar Nadeau.

Broward Housing Solutions will use this grant to provide rental subsidies for elderly tenants, fulfilling its mission to provide affordable housing to Broward County's mental health consumers.  Many of these elderly tenants would not be able to independently afford adequate housing because of the current affordable housing crisis in the area.  If it weren't for Broward Housing Solutions, there is a strong likelihood that these individuals would end up homeless and living on the streets.

"Our family philanthropy focuses on reaching out to the elderly, and Broward Housing Solutions is doing just that," Dr. Vasquez said.  "Thanks to the Community Foundation of Broward, we are now connected to an essential organization that is giving our seniors the care and respect they deserve for all they have done to build our community."

Dr. Erwin and Elaine Vasquez are a deeply devout couple who are involved in more than two dozen charitable groups and have made major inroads into the Hispanic community the past 17 years as owners of el Heraldo de Broward, the first Spanish newspaper in Broward County since 1974 and producers of more than 50 events a year.  In every aspects of their lives, they involve charities and families and have been recognized with numerous awards for their humanitarian work.

Dr. Vasquez also founded the Light of the World Clinic, the only free healthcare clinic for the poor in Broward in 1989.  More than 12,000 needy families receive free healthcare and medicine saving Broward taxpapers millions of dollars.

The Community Foundation of Broward helps donors become philanthropists by connecting them to causes they care about so they can make a difference through strategic giving.  A public organization with just under $100 million in assets, it has allocated more than $28 million to the community in its 22-year history.  As a community foundation, it changes lives across Broward County every day.  For more information, please visit cfbroward.org.
