Coral Springs Property Opens with Ribbon Cutting

Broward Housing Solutions completed its largest housing development ever with the recent opening of Clusters 6, a $1.3 million, two-story, 11-unit complex in Coral Springs.  The new development, complete with laundry facilities and outdoor community areas, is located one block north of Sample Road west of University Drive on Northwest 101 Ave.

The beautifully landscaped complex features seven one-bedroom, one-bath apartments and four two-bedroom, two-bath apartments.  Two of the first floor apartments have 100 percent barrier-free accessibility, including roll-in showers, grab bars, roll under kitchen sinks and accessible appliances.

"We are extremely proud of this beautiful building.  Although the process took several years to raise the necessary funding and complete the building construction, we had no difficulty in locating mental health consumers in need of housing," said Nancy Merolla, President/CEO of Broward Housing Solutions.

"Thanks to the community, the tenants were welcomed by the local Lutheran Ministry in Christ Church, furniture was donated to decorate each unit, and older adults under the services of Broward County Elderly and Veteran Services have a beautiful and peaceful place to live that is safe, accessible and most of all affordable," Merolla added.

Rents are affordable thanks to the rental subsidies provided by the Florida Department of Children and Families' Substance Abuse Mental Health Program Office.  Because of the subsidies, Broward Housing Solutions is able to limit each tenant's rent to 30 percent of their monthly income which relates to rents of average of $169.00 per month.

More than 150 guests attended the opening celebration of the complex.  The invocation was presented by Pastor Robb Grimm, Lutheran Ministry in Christ, welcome statements were offered by Mayor Rhon Ernest-Jones, City of Coral Springs, a congratulatory letter from Broward County Commissioner Ben Graber was read, program support words were offered by Patricia Kramer, Department of Children & Families (DCF), and words of consumer services support were provided by Stephen Ferrante, Director of Broward County Elderly and Veteran Services.

Many thanks to our project funding partners: Broward County Board of County Commissioners, Florida Community Loan Fund, Florida Department of Children & Families - Substance Abuse and Mental Health Program Office, Housing Financing Authority of Broward County, Florida, and Washington Mutual.  Other donors include: City Furniture, City of Coral Springs, Comerica Bank, Superior Shades & Blind Co., Inc., Architect Gustavo Carbonell, P.A., Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Clobus, McLemore & Duke, Inc., and Swinerton Management and Consulting.
