United Way Volunteers Bring Fresh Look to Broward Housing Solutions’ Property
Sixty volunteers from United Way of Broward County rolled up their shirt sleeves, laid out drop cloths and grabbed paint brushes to tackle the faded paint at Broward Housing Solutions’ Cluster 2 apartments in Fort Lauderdale. After a long day of painting, the 2-building apartment complex that houses 13 client tenants has a fresh look – and its residents have renewed faith in our community.
“The spirit of volunteerism is still alive in modern times,” said Chris, a tearful Broward Housing Solutions’ resident. “There are a lot of people here who need help, and we appreciate the good work done by these volunteers.”
The volunteers came together as part of United Way of Broward County’s “Give a Day for United Way” program that offers individuals the opportunity to volunteer on a weekend. United Way is uniquely positioned to bring together community partners, individuals and resources for projects like this.
“We thank United Way of Broward County for coming alongside to help us provide affordable, well-maintained homes for our mental health consumers, many of whom would be homeless if it wasn’t for us,” said Lisa A. Vecchi, Broward Housing Solutions’ CEO. “A hearty thanks also goes out to each volunteer for generously giving of themselves during a weekend day, to serve others.”
