Broward Housing Solutions Receives $8,440 from Community Foundation of Broward
Broward Housing Solutions recently received $8,440 from the Community Foundation of Broward to support young men and women struggling with mental health issues who have aged out of foster care. These young adults reside in two Broward Housing Solutions’ properties, one in Coral Springs and one in Hollywood, as part of the organization’s Housing Solutions for Young Adults program.
“This program is very important to this community as it directly serves an overwhelming need in this community – helping kids aging out of foster care move forward successfully,” said Linda Carter, CEO of the Community Foundation of Broward. “Our continued support of Broward Housing Solutions reflects how well the organization and its staff recognizes community needs and steps up to effectively respond to them.”
The Community Foundation of Broward has provided $86,141 in grants to Broward Housing Solutions since 2004 including $33,000 in the past year alone.
Lisa Vecchi, President/CEO of Broward Housing Solutions, offered her thanks to the Community Foundation of Broward.
“We appreciate the Community Foundation of Broward’s commitment to assisting this vulnerable group of young adults, who face the world alone without any family support after navigating the foster care system most of their lives,” said Vecchi. “With the support of the Community Foundation and our partners, we are able to provide safe, affordable housing and all the tools for a successful future. This is an essential program, and we thank the Community Foundation of Broward its continued support.”
“Housing Solutions for Young Adults” provides housing for young adults who battle mental illness. With partnerships with SOS Children’s Village and Henderson Mental Health Center, this program provides housing for young adults aging out of the foster care system with mental illness. These partnerships are the next step in a continuum of care for these young adults who have faced challenging childhoods with limited options. This innovative program is one example of how Broward Housing Solutions’ executives see a need in the mental health community and work to find a solution. Woodside Gardens in Coral Springs and Wilson Gardens in Hollywood are two Broward Housing Solutions’ developments specifically designated for young adults.
